What is your special talent and how long have you been doing it? | My special talent is singing, acting and just performing in general, I’ve been doing it ever since my parents and I can remember and since I was six I have constantly been in some kind of play. I don’t really remember what started my passion, it kind of just ‘happened’. I also don’t remember my what my first ever play was but I know that ever since I started, stepping onto the stage has given me an exhilarating rush that I have since then became addicted to. |
Why do you love performing this talent so much? | I love the way that theatre can make others feel, I love the buzz of being on a stage and watching the curtains go up. I love looking into the audience and seeing people smile. People have been telling stories since the beginning of time, for example, the cavemen drew pictures on their caves and story telling has evolved so much since then. I love that I get to tell stories and I get to be a part of this amazing storytelling legacy, quite literally 2.5 million years later. |
What is your biggest talent dream and why? | Preforming on a Broadway fundraiser has been a lifelong dream of mine. I can see myself standing on a big stage: feeling the energy of the audience’s applause and knowing that I am raising money for a great cause. However it’s never just been about the thrill of performing for me though, it’s about using my passion and talent to make a difference in this world because that is what really matters to me, I want to change peoples lives and make people happy and inspired through musical theatre. |
Did you ever feel a struggle to keep going or sometimes want to give up? If so, how did you overcome it? | I sometimes loose motivation to keep submitting auditions, especially when I am not booking anything, sometimes my brain can be very dramatic and try to trick my heart into thinking I want to quit acting. When this happens, I like to watch my favourite musical: Newsies on Broadway or turn on my musical theatre playlist and listen to show tunes that remind me why I started. I think about all the roles I have booked in my time and how happy I was performing them. This reminds me not to quit when things get hard. ”You have to walk up a steep hill if you want to roll down it.” – Me. |
Why do you think it is important for talent to learn the spirit of contribution to the greater good and use their talent for good? | I believe it’s really important to use my talent for good, because I have a platform and a voice that I can use to reach lots of people, I love that I can use it to inspire or motivate people, and make a positive impact on the world and make people happy, but with that comes the responsibility to use it for good. I have the power to raise awareness about important matters through performance. It’s not just about how good you are, it’s about using your shat you can to make a difference and to make the world a better place. |
Who are some of your biggest influences and how do they inspire you? | Some of my biggest influences are: Joy Woods, She is a black broadway actor best known as Louise in the Original cast of ‘Gypsy’ and Middle Allie in the original broadway cast of ‘Notebook’. Joy inspires me because she shows that being black doesn’t mean you can’t book big roles. Being black myself, I have had my fair share of poor experiences in theatre because of this. Joy inspires me to keep going because if she can do it, so can I.
And Eva Noblezada, She is best known as the original Eurydice in ‘Hadestown’, Daisy in ‘The Great Gatsby: A new musical’, and (my personal favourite) Kim in the ‘Miss Saigon’ west end revival. Her singing voice is so beautiful and she is such a funny and versatile, talented actress. I really aspire to be like Eva and Joy some time in the future. |
What’s your favorite memory of performing your talent? | My favourite memory of preforming theatre was when I was on the west end stage at Shaftesbury Theatre, in my acting schools original, jukebox musical of ‘Troubles A’ Brewing.’ One of the songs involved was 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton. I loved all the choreography so dearly, and watching the curtains go up, seeing the audience smiling, exited made me never want to leave the stage. I have never wanted to leave a stage since. Being on stage is when I am at my happiest. |
What is your best piece of advice you would give to any talent out there? | A small piece of advice I would give to someone new to the industry is: Everybody starts somewhere. you’re not going to book your first audition, but that that doesn’t mean don’t try. Just keep going and never give up, always remember why you started. Every ‘overnight success’ still has some sort of preparation, so don’t be discouraged if things don’t immediately work out how you planned. Again, never forget your goal and you should hang on to your dreams for as long as you can. |
