What is your special talent and how long have you been doing it?
I am a Dance Studio Owner, Teacher and Choreographer. I’ve been dancing for 33 years now, teaching for 22. I think my special talent is being able to draw an audience in with my storytelling. As cliche as it is, leaving it all on the stage and letting people make their own stories as they go on the journey.
Why do you love performing this talent so much?
Dancing has always been a calling and it is something I’ve loved to do.
What is your biggest talent dream and why?
I’d love to choreograph for a big company and see it on stage sometime before I pass. That would be amazing to see.
Did you ever feel a struggle to keep going or sometimes want to give up?  If so, how did you overcome it?
I think the dance industry is a roller coaster. There have been many times I’ve wanted to give up and I’ve had to take time for myself to remember why I started. But also you have to remember things change, so you have to continue to evolve and remember that you’re not always going to be able to do the same things the same way you were able to 10 years, 5 years, 1 year ago.
Why do you think it is important for talent to learn the spirit of contribution to the greater good and use their talent for good?
You should always want to contribute to your art, it doesn’t just further the form you are doing but it also makes you a better human. Dance, art, music can’t survive if we don’t contribute and collaborate.
Who are some of your biggest influences and how do they inspire you?
Gregory Hines, Savion Glover, Gene Kelly were some of the artists that got me dancing when I was young. I had so many great teachers and mentors growing up who also inspired me at my home studio to learn and grow.
What’s your favorite memory of performing your talent?
Getting my first “big kids” job on cruise ships right out of High School. I got paid to travel and dance for 7 1/2 years.
What is your best piece of advice you would give to any talent out there?
Continually evolve. Always find something new to learn, you will make yourself more valuable to the arts and yourself. Don’t ever think yourself above someone else, bit don’t be afraid to talk about your accomplishments either. That goes hand in hand.
