How long have you been helping people with their talent and what got you into it?

About 30 years. I have a B.Mus. in voice from Heidelberg U. (Tiffin, Ohio) and I have been teaching voice in Cincinnati, Ohio for most of my career.

What has been most satisfying for you in your journey?

Seeing people gain confidence in their abilities and perform in a variety of shows and recitals.

How did you learn the professional skills you share with others today?  Who or what influences played into that?

Originally my degree in music, and ever since then, I have been performing in Ohio and the tri-state area.

Did you ever feel a struggle to keep going or sometimes want to give up?  If so, how did you overcome it?

Not really. My main career was not in performing — so I have always been able to do music as a part-time gig.

What are your thoughts on the concept of helping talent learn the spirit of contribution to the greater good and using their talent for good?

I think most artists innately have that desire to improve the lives of others, so providing them that outlet will be appreciated. A lot of people just don’t know how to get started, so, having some established ways that they can help out goes a long way.

Do you have other future aspirations for yourself, your business or training of others?

I had been entertaining at retirement communities as well as section-leading in church choir — I hope when we can meet in person again, I can go back to doing those things, and, to bring younger people into the world of music performance.

Is there anything our audience could do to help with the above?

I would enjoy having some virtual students that I could mentor.

Please share any standout moments in your experience that would inspire other performers.

I’ve done so many things over the years, but, here are a few videos of memorable music activities that I have done : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBVcr7Oa_FU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR8pYcePv7k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icIQ-0u9rJ4&t=34s

What is your best piece of advice you would give to any talent out there?

Don’t give up, but, don’t count on the arts as your main way of supporting yourself — very few people can do that. Find a career outside of music that you can enjoy, and then use your free time to pursue music and performing.

Thanks to all coaches and students for their hard work.
